MECHANICAL DESIGN AND DRAFTING JOB

COMPLETE DESCRIPTION OF YOUR POSITION

As a Mechanical Designer/Drafter, you will be responsible for various tasks related to the design and drafting of mechanical parts, assemblies, or equipment, while complying with applicable standards, technical constraints, and the requirements of clients or specific projects. You will play a key role in creating manufacturing drawings, developing technical concepts, and collaborating across disciplines within the engineering and production teams.

In addition to your skills in computer-aided design, you will be required to respond to technical questions from colleagues, clients, or suppliers, provide support to production, and actively contribute to solving technical problems in collaboration with the engineering team.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Mechanical Design and Drafting

  • Produce detailed technical drawings of mechanical parts, assemblies, and installations (2D and 3D) using CAD software (SolidWorks);
  • Design or modify attachments for industrial equipment and heavy machinery;
  • Develop technical concepts and innovative solutions to meet project or client needs;
  • Check and validate the feasibility of designs, considering manufacturing, assembly, cost, and schedule constraints;
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM) for assemblies and products;
  • Update and manage technical documentation (drawings, specifications, 3D models, etc.);

• Communication and Collaboration

  • Interact with engineering, production, purchasing, and quality teams to ensure design consistency and smooth project execution;
  • Respond to technical questions from colleagues, clients, or suppliers;
  • Actively participate in design reviews and project coordination meetings;
  • Collaborate in research and development of new technical solutions or new products;

• Production Support

  • Provide technical support for manufacturing and assembly;
  • Participate in solving technical challenges arising during production;
  • Make changes to drawings based on design modifications or continuous improvements identified in production

• Other Responsibilities

  • Actively contribute to improving and documenting design processes and procedures;
  • Perform any other tasks required to support the technical team and ongoing projects.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Initiative, creativity, and attention to detail;
• Efficiently uses CAD software and produces precise drawings with meticulous attention to detail;
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team;
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Rigorous and methodical in producing and checking drawings;
• Organizes tasks based on priorities and responds effectively to client needs;

REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

• DEC (Diploma of College Studies) in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Drafting, or a university degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Several years of relevant experience in mechanical drafting or design (an asset);
• Good proficiency with computer-aided drafting software (SolidWorks, etc.);
• Knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes (laser cutting, machining, welding, sheet metal work, etc.);
• Excellent command of the French language (spoken and written) and intermediate knowledge of English (spoken and written);
